# Say It

A talker (AAC) for requests and first sentences, with every press counted

A speech board like a learner’s own AAC device. Each picture button says its word in a recorded voice, and words can be strung into a sentence. Core words sit on the home page, and things, activities, feelings, people, and places are in 6 folders, 92 words in all.

## When

- Teaching requests (mands) with a speech-output device, from one big button up to a 24-button page.
- Sessions where the learner doesn’t have their own device yet, or trying a layout before an SLP sets one up.
- Modeling on the board while you talk to the learner (aided language modeling).

## Why

- Buttons keep their spots as the page grows, so the learner can find a word by where it is.
- Colors follow the Modified Fitzgerald Key used by most AAC devices: people yellow, actions green, describing words blue, things orange, social words pink, questions purple, and no and stop red.
- Every press is saved with the word and whether it was on their own, prompted, or your model, so the trend toward independent requests shows up on its own.
- The board, its buttons, and the voice are learner presets, so the same board opens on every device.

## How

1. On the setup screen, choose how many buttons the home page has (1 to 24). Tap a spot to put a word or folder there, or tap a filled spot to change or remove it. **Use the starter page** fills in a ready-made page.
2. Choose the message bar: **Build a sentence** adds each word to a bar at the top, and tapping the bar says the whole sentence. **Say each word** just speaks, which suits first requests. Pick a voice, then tap **Play**.
3. Before you prompt, tap **Prompted** under **Next press**. It covers one press, then goes back to **On their own**. To model, turn on **Adult model**; it stays on (the board gets a dashed outline) until you tap it again.
4. Folder buttons have a tab and open a page of words; **Home** goes back. In the bar, ⌫ deletes the last word and ✕ clears it, without changing the data.
5. Use **Back** to take back a press. **Hold to end** returns to setup, so a learner’s tap doesn’t close the board.

**Saved to the dashboard:** Every word pressed, with whether it was on their own, prompted, or an adult model. Each session shows presses by word and help level and every press in order, and the graph shows presses on their own per session. Model presses are never counted as the learner’s. Sessions are split by page size.
